Involving the persons who use our services: the development of a new power

The Comité d'intervention auprès des cocaïnomanes as well as the authors of the Étude de faisabilité au sujet de la création de lieux d'insertion sociale et de sites d'injection pour les utilisateurs de drogue par injection (UDI) have approached Cactus regarding the creation of an Activity and networking center.

The Project

The goal of this project is to favor the social integration of addicted and often isolated persons in Montréal, by mobilizing them and helping them to regain, by their involvement, their own place within the community. According to the proposed objectives, this space would allow those who wish to do so, to directly participate in the development of activities that inspire them and to express their opinion regarding health and social services which they consider most important, on site or through reference. The management committees will include both addicted persons and the personnel of the Centre. Illicit drugs will not be used on site but material will be available.

The project also aims at facilitating accessibility to existing social and health services by establishing partnerships and creating very tight bonds with community and institutional organizations. Cactus has always collaborated with other organizations in its field of activity and this project will also be managed in the spirit of partnership. The activity and networking center is destined to become a platform to access other services.
