Activities and Meetings

ASTT(e)Q hosts meetings for trans and gender-questioning people of all genders. These meetings are a venue where people can interact with one another and find community and support. The discussions are informal and are facilitated by an ASTT(e)Q staff member.

Harm Reduction Equipment and Health Services

Through the needle exchange service provided by CACTUS, ASTT(e)Q is able to provide safer sex equipment (condoms, lubricant) and injection supplies (syringes for intramuscular or subcutaneous hormonal intake) at no cost. We also offer accompaniment services, including doctor visits and access to medical services.

The CACTUS fixed site-SCS also has a CIUSSS nurse on-site who can perform HIV/STBBI screenings, administer vaccines, as well as provide other health services and information. Nursing services are confidential and free of charge.

Post surgery support program

This year we have teamed up with the trans patient union to provide specialized support to those recovering from gender affirming surgeries in Montreal. Priority to individuals who don’t have the community support necessary for recovery.

If you have received a surgery date, reach out to us to set up a meeting with an intervention worker. We will connect you with our amazing network of volunteers who have been trained by ASTTeQ staff with a harm reduction and trauma-informed approach. Our volunteers are trained to know about gender affirming surgeries, what to expect and how to support the self-advocacy of people in recovery. Support offered through program

• Grocery deliveries
• Medication Pickups
• Meal Preparation
• Medical Appointment Accompaniments
• Lifts
• Help with Recovery Related Planning
• Peer Support

If you’d like to get involved in the program as a volunteer, reach out using the contact form.

Education and consultations

ASTTeQ has existed since 1998, and with that wealth of knowledge and experience comes education work.

Workshops:

ASTTeQ can provide a variety of workshops and trainings to staff and participants of different organizations, or workspaces to improve the inclusion of trans people. Our facilitators can be flexible based on the needs of the organization or individual and can include specific scenarios relevant to the context. Each workshop includes space for questions.

Currently available workshops:

• Trans 101 – length 1.5 hours – 200$
• De-escalation & harm reduction. (street harassment) – length 1.5 hours – 200$

Consultations:

We are currently offering consultations to organizations, workspaces and individuals who wish to learn more, and receive feedback about projects that impact the lives of trans individuals. As a by-and-for organizations, our coordinator and members of our staff, can have those discussions in a non-tokenizing environment. We will be prioritizing consultations with groups and orgs that directly work with trans people. Initial consult: 75.00$ CAD Additional consultations: 100.00$ CAD per hour

Tabling:

Organizations and groups can reach out to us (at least 1 month in advance) to book our presence for events ranging from kink parties to Kiki balls located in a variety of spaces like CEGEPS and community gatherings. Depending on the length of our presence we may ask for a financial contribution to cover transport fees. Black, Indigenous and Migrant focused organizations do not have to pay for our services. We have a large supply of harm reduction material, please feel free to let us know about the theme of the event, and if there are specific materials you want us to provide at our kiosk.
